What "ipamorelin peptide" names, and what it does not

Ipamorelin is five residues long, Aib-His-D-2-Nal-D-Phe-Lys with an amidated C-terminus, and three of the five are not ordinary amino acids: α-aminoisobutyric acid at the N-terminus, a D-2-naphthylalanine and a D-phenylalanine. The Novo Nordisk paper cited at the foot of this page introduced it in 1998 under the code NNC 26-0161. Listings write ipamorelin, ipamorelin acetate, ipamorelin peptide and the abbreviation "ipa"; one molecule, formula C38H49N9O5, average mass 711.9 Da. It is also the second component of the CJC-1295 ipamorelin blend, where it is the cheap and robust half.

The unnatural residues are the reason it is one of the most durable peptides in the catalogue and the reason it is easy to counterfeit cheaply. Nothing in ipamorelin oxidises, deamidates or forms a disulfide, so a real lot keeps for years lyophilised; but a factory that substitutes alanine for the α-aminoisobutyric acid, or L-amino acids for the D-forms, makes a cheaper peptide that weighs almost the same. The alanine substitution is 14 Da lighter and a mass spectrometer sees it; the L-for-D substitution weighs exactly the same and only chiral analysis or a reference comparison on HPLC does.

The research record is animal and cell work on the ghrelin receptor, cited below, and this page describes the material rather than any use. What a buyer can act on is a small molecule with an exact mass, a known set of cheap substitutions, and a laboratory that can tell the real sequence from the imitation.

The reference point for identity is public. PubChem lists Ipamorelin as CID 9831659 with molecular formula C38H49N9O5, an average molecular weight of 711.9 Da and a monoisotopic mass of 711.386 Da. Those are the numbers a mass spectrometer is checked against, and the number a certificate must print beside the observed mass.

In plain terms: A man-made five-building-block peptide that makes the pituitary release growth hormone. No approved product and no official standard. Its unusual chemical toughness is a fact about storage, not a statement about what it does in any living thing.

Ipamorelin for sale: sizes and price per mg

LabFirst lists Ipamorelin in 2 sizes (5mg, 10mg) from $44 to $65, priced per vial with the per-mg figure beside it so sizes can be compared without arithmetic. Per mg, the 10mg vial is the cheapest at $6.50 and the 5mg the dearest at $8.80, which is the usual shape: the vial, stopper, seal, fill and laboratory run cost the same whatever mass goes in.

The volume tiers are per size, not per basket: ten vials of one size take 10% off that line and twenty take 15%, and mixed sizes do not combine. The certificate a Ipamorelin lot must carry

Three tests answer three different questions, and a certificate of analysis for Ipamorelin is only complete when it carries all three for the exact lot on the vial. Net content is the third test and the one most often missing: the milligrams of Ipamorelin actually in the vial, measured, against the size printed on the label.

Identity is the observed mass against 711.386 Da monoisotopic (711.9 Da average), seen in electrospray as m/z 712.4 for the singly charged ion and 356.7 for the doubly charged. The certificate should print the theoretical and the observed value. A mass near 697 Da is the alanine-for-Aib substitute, a cheaper and different peptide. A mass that matches exactly does not prove the D-residues are D-residues; that takes either a chiral amino acid analysis or an HPLC comparison against a reference standard, and a laboratory that has done one says so on the certificate. Most do not, and for a routine lot the exact mass plus a clean chromatogram is the practical standard.

Purity by HPLC on a pentapeptide is straightforward, and the common impurities (a deletion sequence, a leftover protecting group on the lysine) resolve well from the main peak; even so, the chromatogram with its conditions is the evidence and the percentage its summary. Net content is the line to insist on. Ipamorelin is supplied as an acetate or a trifluoroacetate salt, and on a 5 mg vial the difference between milligrams of powder and milligrams of peptide can be a fifth. Quantitative HPLC against a standard, or amino acid analysis, tells you which the label is counting.

Where to buy Ipamorelin: five checks before you order from anyone

Every seller of ipamorelin peptide says "third-party tested". The phrase costs nothing. These five checks take about four minutes per listing and separate a tested lot from a tested-sounding one.

1. The lot on the vial is the lot on the certificate. Read the printed lot number, then open the certificate and match it. A certificate for "Ipamorelin" with no lot, or a lot that does not match, describes some other vial.
2. The laboratory is named and has its own lookup. The report should come from a laboratory the seller does not own, with a search code you can enter on the laboratory's own site. 3. The theoretical mass is printed, and it is the right one. For Ipamorelin that is 711.386 Da monoisotopic; a certificate that prints a different figure has either measured a different molecule or copied a template.
4. Purity has a method and a date. An HPLC percentage should name the method and the run date. A figure that reads "99%+" with neither, or one date reused across every product a seller lists, is decoration.
5. Net content is stated in milligrams. The label size is a claim; the certificate's net content is the measurement. If the certificate has no net content line, the purity figure describes the powder, not the vial, and the price per mg you calculated is fiction.

How listings for Ipamorelin specifically mislead:

• A price far below the market. The cheap versions substitute alanine for α-aminoisobutyric acid (14 Da lighter, visible by mass) or L-residues for D-residues (same mass, invisible without chiral analysis).
• "Ipamorelin 5 mg" with no counter-ion and no net content line. Trifluoroacetate salts carry noticeably less peptide per milligram of powder than acetate; without the content line the milligrams are unknown.
• A certificate showing a mass near 697 Da. That is the alanine substitute, a different compound; the purity figure beside it describes the wrong peptide.
• "Pharmaceutical grade ipamorelin". There is no USP monograph and no approved product; the phrase has no meaning for this compound and marks a seller who hopes you will not know that.

Regulatory status, and what this page is not

No approved medicine contains ipamorelin, and no USP or Ph. Eur. monograph defines an acceptable lot; Novo Nordisk's development programme did not lead to a product. In September 2023 the FDA placed "Ipamorelin Acetate" in Category 2 of its interim list of bulk drug substances nominated for compounding under section 503A, the category for substances it has identified as raising significant safety risks, which bars licensed pharmacies from compounding with it.
