Status: Preclinical research literature; no approved application. BPC 157 is a synthetic pentadecapeptide that appears in a preclinical research literature. There is no FDA-approved product containing it and no recognised USP/NF monograph, which is itself a meaningful fact for anyone evaluating supply: without a compendial monograph there is no official standard defining what an acceptable article of this substance is.

Current FDA guidance and regulatory status
BPC 157 was placed in Category 2 of the FDA's 503A bulk drug substances list — substances that may present significant safety risks — effective with the agency's update of 29 September 2023. In April 2026 the FDA removed BPC 157 from Category 2 after the nomination supporting it was withdrawn. Removal from Category 2 is not a move to Category 1: the substance was not added to the list of bulks permitted for 503A compounding, and it remains neither FDA-approved nor covered by a USP/NF monograph. BPC-157-related substances were before the Pharmacy Compounding Advisory Committee again on 23 July 2026.

How is BPC 157 identity and purity established?
Identity is established with orthogonal evidence — a mass-spectrometric measurement that matches the expected molecular mass, read alongside a chromatographic purity profile. A purity percentage on its own establishes neither identity nor quantity.
Purity is reported as a chromatographic area percentage from reverse-phase HPLC, stated together with the method and the date it was run. An area percentage quoted without its method is not a result.
Two numbers are routinely confused with each other. Purity describes how much of what is in the vial is the intended compound. Net content describes how much material is actually there. A vial can be 99% pure and still contain substantially less mass than its label states, which is why the record treats them as separate measurements with separate methods.

How to evaluate any supplier of BPC 157
This applies to us as much as to anyone else. Run these five checks before money moves.
- Verify the certificate at the laboratory, not the seller. Take the report's key or QR code to the issuing laboratory's own verification page. If it does not resolve, or resolves to a different product, the document is worthless no matter how convincing it looks.
- Check the certificate names the seller as its client. A report commissioned by somebody else tells you about somebody else's material, not about the vial in front of you.
- Match the lot on the certificate to the lot on the vial. A genuine report for a different lot is still the wrong report.
- Require a method beside every number. A purity percentage with no stated method and no test date is marketing, not a result.
- Confirm identity separately from purity. Purity describes how much of what is in the vial is the intended compound. It cannot tell you the compound is the right one — that takes mass-spectrometric evidence read alongside the chromatography.
