Status: No FDA-approved application. This compound is sold as laboratory material. Where research on it has been published, it sits at the animal, cell or early-human stage, and this record does not summarize what it found. A supplier is not a neutral judge of evidence about its own catalog.
Epithalon is a four-building-block peptide, Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly, put together from the amino acid make-up of a cow pineal gland extract called epithalamin. The mechanism the research rests on is telomerase, the enzyme that rebuilds the caps on the ends of chromosomes. In human cells in culture, treatment is reported to switch on the gene for the working part of that enzyme, raise its activity, and lengthen the caps measurably, with cells continuing to divide past the point they normally stop.
Other reported effects include influence on melatonin production and changes in an immune signal called interleukin-2. It belongs to a group its developers call short peptide bioregulators.

A large share of the published work on this compound comes from Vladimir Khavinson and colleagues at the St Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology, who created the short peptide bioregulator category it belongs to. That is a concentration of source rather than a disqualification, but it means the evidence has been checked independently less than its volume suggests, and the 2025 replication by a different group is worth more than its one-paper weight.
