SNAP-8 is an eight-residue peptide, acetyl octapeptide-3, developed as an extension of the six-residue Argireline sequence. The proposed mechanism borrows its logic from botulinum toxin without the toxin: neurotransmitter release at the neuromuscular junction requires assembly of the SNARE complex, in which SNAP-25 is a component, and the peptide is designed to mimic SNAP-25's N-terminal end and compete for its place in that complex, destabilising it. If that happened, vesicle fusion and therefore acetylcholine release would be reduced.
The honest observation about this compound is that the mechanism is a coherent story and the evidence that it occurs in intact human skin is close to absent.
